Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Introduction to engineering management: definitions and scope of engineering management. The engineering manager as project manager - establishing a project, planning a project, timing a project. Introduction to other aspects of project management: project design, project logistics, project legalities, project execution and project reporting. Use of project management software: Microsoft Project 2000. The engineering manager as productive systems designer - introduction to different types of productive systems design covering manufacturing systems and service organisations. Use of computer-based simulation software (Extend) in the design of productive systems.
Assessment: Individual assessment including examination (2 hours): 70% + Group assignments: 30%
