Synopsis: This unit introduces fundamental information systems and information management concepts that are extended in subsequent advanced units. Areas explored include: the nature, roles and value of information/knowledge and information systems within organisations (eg in supporting organisational processes, decision making and problem solving and facilitating organisational learning and innovation); strategic information management and information systems planning; issues in managing information processes and in developing and implementing information systems in organisations; effective communication styles and practices; professional behaviour and ethical codes governing practice.
Assessment: Final exam 50% + Assignment work 50%
Contact Hours: 3 hours per week
