Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this subject, students should be able to: 1. Understand and use a range of independent learning skills appropriate for tertiary studies in Australia 2. Confidently and competently access the internet, search for health information, use email, access news groups and transfer files 3. Understand the history of the internet, its major themes, current advantages and limitations, and its impact on today's society 4. Describe concepts of health, illness, disease and well-being in terms of a bio-psycho-social model 5. Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of law and ethics as they apply to medicine 6. Recognise and apply basic statistical concepts used in medical research 7. Critically read and appraise a research paper
