Synopsis: This unit engages participants in an Action Research based 'teaching change' project to improve the quality of their students' learning. Action research provides a practical yet systematic professional development methodology for the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning that invites participation by students and other colleagues. In planning, implementing and reflecting on their project, participants will draw on the knowledge and experience gained from previous GCHE units, as well as other appropriate educational literature.

Objectives: At the successful completion of this Unit participants should be able to: - Plan, implement, evaluate and document a change in a teaching practice which explicitly aims to improve student learning; - Apply Action Research as a continuous improvement methodology in relation to a current teaching practice; - Draw on relevant educational scholarship to inform and guide the learning/teaching improvement project; and, - Coherently and reflectively present the results of an Action Research project capable of publication.

Assessment: There are two assessment tasks: 1. A Project Plan (of approx. 2000 words) + 2. A Project Report (of approx. 2000 words)

Contact Hours: Equivalent of 2 hrs per week (face-to-face and on-line)

Corequisites: Concurrently teaching
