Malaysia First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Deflection using strain energy. Stresses in thick-walled cylinders due to internal and external pressures. Stresses in rotating discs. Contact stresses. Experimental stress analysis including strain gauging and photo-elasticity. Inelastic bending and torsion. Residual stresses. Plasticity of metals with application including evaluations of forces required in some applications such as rolling of metal strips, extrusion, tube sinking, etc.
Assessment: Examination: 60% + Laboratory: 15% + Assignments: 25%
Contact Hours: 39 lecture hours and 26 laboratory/tutorial hours
Prerequisites: GSE2201 or GEG2723
