Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: This is a core economic geography unit that encourages a critical engagement with various economic principles through an examination of production and consumption processes, economic restructuring, labour market change and spatial divisions of labour. Students will critically analyse how competing economic interests are mediated in various urban contexts. Issues of governance are central to this analysis and will arm students with a critical appreciation of economic transformations.
Assessment: Essay (1,500 word): 25% + Essay (1,000 words): 15% + Field Report (1,500 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 30%
Contact Hours: 3 hours (one x 2 hour lecture and one x 1 hour tutorial) per week
Prerequisites: A first-year sequence in Geography or permission
