Synopsis: This unit covers the object-oriented approach to systems analysis and design. Topics include: object-oriented concepts, abstraction and modelling; object modelling - identification, classification, association, generalisation and aggregation, inheritance, meta-data and notation for object modelling; dynamic modelling - state transition diagrams and object lifecycles; object communication models; integration of object, dynamic and communication models; mapping the object model to relational databases; recognition of the variety of object-oriented development methodologies, such as those of Rumbaugh et.al., and the Unified Modelling Language (UML).
Assessment: Assignments: 55% + Examination (3 hours): 45%
