Synopsis: This is a coursework elective when particular interests cannot be met by the electives being offered. The research essay can take one of two formats. In format one, students access units outside the EdD schedule. They audit the unit and complete additional reading as specified by the lecturer in charge. In format two, students access aspects of staff expertise which are not available through other units and negotiate a reading program with an individual staff member.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the political nature of resource management and the complexity of issues involved; demonstrate knowledge and skills in techniques of resource planning and staff selection; compare prevailing practices of financial and capital management in education with those of other comparable systems; and demonstrate a capacity to identify and examine research related to the management of resources.
