Theories of Assessment ( 12 points, SCA Band 0, 0.250 EFTSL)

Synopsis: This unit will provide the student with the opportunity to review the relevant literature and to be able to critically appraise and select appropriate assessment procedures for specific behavioural areas in children and adults. The course will cover the theoretical bases and details of procedure in selected areas of assessment and will critically evaluate and highlight major advantages and disadvantages of each approach.

Assessment: Critical review of an individual assessment technique (100 words): 20% + Critical essay reviewing the literature in depth on a selected approach to assessment which will include review of the theory and evaluation of assessment methods based upon it (4000 words): 60% + Journal of practicum exercises (100 words): 10% + Essay on ethical and professional issues in selected assessment procedures (100 words): 10%
