Synopsis: Skills for working with people of all ages suffering from anxiety disorders. Topics include classification, aetiological factors and assessment procedures (avoidance tests, anxiety scales etc). Anxiety management techniques. Practical procedures in anxiety reduction. Case management issues eg keeping files, making a referral.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have developed an advanced knowledge and understanding of the nature, causes and epidemiology of anxiety disorders across the life span; assessment, counselling and intervention skills for the management of anxiety disorders in various settings; an understanding of case management issues.
Assessment: Major assignment (6000 words) 70% Minor assignment (2500 words) 30%
