Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Current practical methods and theories in the teaching of drama at secondary level. Applications of kinaesthetic learning across the key learning areas, focusing on drama as an art form, drama as personal development, and drama as a learning medium.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have acquired an understanding of the place of drama in the secondary curriculum; a detailed knowledge of key curriculum documents, including the curriculum and standards framework (arts) document and the relevant VCE study designs; the ability to develop a relevant and meaningful drama program for secondary students at all levels; the ability to apply their knowledge of dramatic form and meaning to classroom settings; the capacity to cater for the needs of students in mixed-ability classrooms; a recognition of the value of kinaesthetic learning for students at all year levels.
Assessment: Practical/performance task: 50% + Detailed Drama lesson plan presentation: 20% + Theatre style presentation: 30%.
Contact Hours: 3 hours per week
Prerequisites: Submajor in drama or theatrical studies at a tertiary level
