Synopsis: This unit builds directly upon the content and experiences of EDF5436 English Education A. This unit is designed to further assist students to develop abilities and skills in planning and implementing curriculum in the area of English curriculum. While the unit focuses mainly on the junior and middle secondary school, reference will be made to the Victorian Certificate of Education and other examples of curriculum in the post-compulsory years.

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to critically reflect on their personal beliefs, values and experiences in regard to unit English and in regard to their teaching of this unit; competently use a variety of communication strategies in different modes and in different teaching and learning contexts; actively participate in professional conversations about a range of issues in relation to the content of unit English, including pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and values in unit English; engage in collegial interaction across a range of contexts in unit English; collaboratively design and publish text response activities for use in schools and lead their peers in a professional development episode in relation to these tasks; evaluate their own experience in teaching English in schools, in particular, to evaluate their own experience of the teaching of writing in relation to key theories about the teaching of writing.

Assessment: Assessment: written assignment (2000 words); development of curriculum materials (2000 words equivalent)
