Synopsis: This unit builds on the concepts introduced in EDF5434. The major focus of this unit will be to further develop strategies and pedagogy appropriate for teaching Economics in Years 7 to 12.
Objectives: By the end of this unit students will demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant discipline areas associated with the teaching and learning of economics and related units; know and apply materials, teaching methods and programs associated with the teaching and learning of economics and related subjects; motivate and engage students in their learning of economics; set clear, challenging and achievable goals for students; use a range of teaching styles, strategies and technologies appropriate to best practice teaching and learning of economics; use assessment tasks that are purposeful and relevant to the teaching and learning program and the learning needs of students; use a variety of assessment and reporting methods to regularly monitor student learning progress.
Assessment: Unit of work: 50%, Teaching Portfolio: 30%, Class activities: 20% + Students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice. (On-campus students) Student participation in the unit is vital and an 80% attendance requirement is required so students can fully participate in the workshops.
