Synopsis: Introduction to the reading and analysis of research in education and the ways in which research informs practice. The relation of recent significant research to schooling in a social and policy framework. Students will be introduced to sources and to methods for locating research information.
Objectives: At the completion of this unit students will be able to describe educational research, its variety of methods, its purposes and how it is conducted; locate and analyse critically relevant educational research books, reports and articles; demonstrate an appreciation of the value of educational research to the betterment of teaching and learning; show how educational research contributes to educational policy making; and outline the principles and practice of action research.
Assessment: Evaluation (2 x 500 words): 30% + Essay (1000 words): 20% + Review (2000 words): 50%
