Peninsula Summer 2005 (Off-campus)
Synopsis: An intensive introductory program in European music and arts including lectures, concerts, opera and museum visits on location in Central Europe [The itinerary may include visits to several of these countries : Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Germany]. The summer school will last approximately four weeks.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the history of German music in the context of the places visited in the tour; demonstrate an appreciation of the relationship between music and the other arts (eg architecture, visual arts) as observed during the tour; appreciate the relationship between musical or performance style and the buildings, purposes and instruments for which music was designed.
Assessment: Essay [2400 words] : 60% + reflective journal [1600 words]: 40%
