Synopsis: Individual coursework in the technical and conceptual areas chosen by the student. Students interpret originally and investigate independently a personal theme using one or a combination of the materials and processes introduced in the previous units. Students develop a folio of preliminary material, such as working and finished drawings, to accompany the finished work. The critical analysis of art education theory and practice.
Objectives: The learning objectives of this unit are to successfully explore, develop and complete a major artwork that shows development of personal and thematic concepts relevant to choice of media; to be innovative and experimental with personal and thematic concepts; to develop skills in a range of media introduced throughout the semester; to develop art appreciation skills relevant to art practice and the teaching of art in schools; to develop familiarity with a range of literature on artists, art techniques, processes and trends in contemporary art; to document processes involved in the development of visual ideas through the use of drawing, photocopying, computer art, and journal entries.
Assessment: Practical Folio (3200 words equivalent): 80% + Class presentation (800 words equivalent): 20%
