Synopsis: This unit builds on the knowledge, skills and experience gained in previous BAL&D units and applies them in a work-based setting. Participants will develop and complete a self-directed research project in a workplace setting, selecting from a range of research approaches and techniques to construct their proposal. The unit will emphasise the practical and independent development and management of a research project under the guidance of a mentor. Particular attention will be given to the workplace application and dissemination of research project outcomes.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to develop a research project proposal; be able to select and apply a variety of work-based research approaches and techniques; be able to design, manage and complete a work-based research project; and be aware of the ways in which research project outcomes can be applied and disseminated.
Assessment: Assignment 1: Development of a project proposal (1,000 words) 25%; Assignment 2: Class presentation of proposal (500 word equivalence) 15%; Assignment 3: Report on workplace project: (2,500 words) 60%
