Synopsis: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have a knowledge and appreciation of the features of a wide range of children's literature suitable for primary-aged children; the ability to critically analyse children's texts to determine their appropriateness for primary-aged children; and demonstrated an awareness of current issues relating to selecting and presenting literature to young children.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to demonstrate an appreciation for the diversity of genre available in children's literature; understanding of the criteria for selecting children's literature for primary school children; understanding of the key issues concerned with the content and promotion of children's literature; ability in the presentation of children's literature; understanding of the components for the analysis of children's literature.
Assessment: Folio (2000 words): 50% + Presentation (400 words): 10% + Written assignment (1600 words): 40%, + Hurdle: 80% attendance in lectures/tutorials
