Peninsula Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: The unit explores contemporary approaches to art practice and aims to develop and increase confidence and skills across a range of media. Emphasis will be placed on experimentation and concept development. The unit will examine art practice and theory through lectures and seminars, excursions to galleries and studios, leading to the development of strategies and activities for classroom application.
Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit students should have developed an understanding of contemporary art practice through the study of sculpture and painting; developed elementary skills in painting and sculpture that relate to technique, concepts, and pedagogical approaches relevant for use within a classroom setting; be able to create, reflect and respond to visual art forms and concepts by developing aesthetic and conceptual awareness; developed a contextual and pedagogical awareness of learning in, through and about art; the ability to express personal and thematic concepts through and across a range of media to a satisfactory level of technical expertise; be able to document and make reflective and reflexive responses to class content, techniques, artists, terminology, pedagogical and conceptual notions relevant to the unit.
Assessment: Practical folio: 60% + Drawing folio (6 pieces): 30% + Class paper (1000 words): 10%
