Synopsis: This unit will address the various factors associated with classroom management, classroom contexts and the development of teaching skills and strategies. These factors shall include lesson planning, designing learning activities, catering to diversity, communication technologies, curriculum implementation and evaluation. This unit will also provide support of the first teaching experience in schools.

Objectives: At the completion of this unit, students will be able to: - demonstrate appropriate planning and communication skills in a variety of classroom contexts; - recognize the complexities in the communication and curriculum delivery processes involved in real school contexts; - accommodate a range of logistical factors when planning classroom activities for student learning; - develop a preliminary personal classroom management policy incorporating practical principles to guide their own teaching; - critique a range of classroom management policies, theories and practices as they impact on classroom contexts; - Compare and contrast classrooms in a range of contexts by evaluating how they meet the needs of the various learners.

Assessment: Assignment (2000 words):50% + Presentation and peer critique (equivalent to 2000 words): 50%
