Synopsis: We analyse the transformation in the Asian economies with specific reference to the structure of industry, factor migration and urbanisation, the transfer of technology and related institutional changes. The role of government in these processes will be examined and evaluated against selected theories of economic growth and development. How development theory has interacted or not interacted with solutions to practical problems is considered through a case study approach which includes an analysis of Australian aid funding.
