Synopsis: Economic factors that are of major interest to bankers and others operating in the finance industry. The role of money in influencing economic activities. Implementation and operation of monetary policy, the relationship of exchange rates to monetary policy, the major factors determining movements in interest rates and exchange rates in both the intermediate and long terms, and important issues in monetary theory (the study of the effect of money on the economy) will be examined. The role of interest rates in the working of the macro business environment.

Assessment: Distance - Written assignment: 30% + Examination (2 hours): 70%. On-campus - Class participation: 10% + Class test or written assignment: 20% + Examinaton (2 hours): 70%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: ECF1100 or ECF2100 and ECF1200 or ECF2200, or equivalent
