Clayton First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Delivery of electrical energy; electrical generation technologies; transmission and distribution systems; load models; modelling of network elements; symmetrical components; steady state and dynamic analysis of power systems; frequency and voltage control; network response to transients; fault calculations; quality and harmonic issues for electrical supply systems; grid protection systems; electrical plant protection; plant ratings; fuses and overcurrent relays; earth-fault protection; introduction to high voltage engineering; aging and condition monitoring, insulation co-ordination and surge protection.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
