Synopsis: Physics of circuit interruption; circuit breakers; current chopping and restriking voltages; underground cables; transmission line theories; calculation of surge performance; lightning phenomena and its affect on a power system; high voltage measurement and testing; insulation materials; non-destructive insulation tests; insulation condition monitoring of electrical plant; partial discharges.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
