Synopsis: The relationship between population growth and economic development in Asia during the last two hundred years. Topics include the history of famine; disease control; cultural values; fertility; imperialism and the demand for cheap labour; land use and agricultural technology; industrialisation; the modern demographic transition; and government birth control programs
Assessment: Written (3000-word essay): 40% + Examination (2 hours): 60%
