Caulfield First semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: This subject gives students understanding and ability in the concepts and tools applicable to multimedia design and authoring. Idea development, scripting, storyboarding, planning, prototyping and presentation of multimedia design concepts are explored through the development and design of multimedia product. Multimedia authoring tools and techniques are demonstrated.
Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1.skilfully and creatively communicate with multimedia; 2.define, develop, plan and organise multimedia material for publication; 3.explain the concepts of interactivity, non-linear narrative, navigation, and graphical user interface controls; 4.devise and develop a storyboard/script for multimedia publication; 5.have an understanding of the nature of multimedia elements, including text, image, sound, animation and video; 6.be able to analyse electronic media, and identify the various multimedia elements used; 7.be able to combine existing multimedia elements using a multimedia authoring tool; 8.be able to use text and images as multimedia elements in electronic documents.
Assessment: Major project 50% + Exercises 30% + Journal 20%
Contact Hours: 3 hours in class and 9 independent study hours per week
