Synopsis: This unit will be a project which will draw on the various disciplines in which the diploma students are enrolled. The work will be carried by teams of four, in which at least two disciplinary areas are represented (eg Business and Computing). Students will choose from a list of topics drawn from the various areas they are studying. They will need to refine their topic and work together to develop a project on a cross disciplinary basis.

Objectives: 1. Working in a team; 2. Framing a question that is suitable to be researched; 3. Drawing on more than one discipline to research an issue; 4. Bibliographic and on-line research; 5. Drawing up a bibliography; 6. Presenting an oral report on work in progress; 7. consolidating and editing material to present a clear written report; and 8. Assessing the value of the experience.

Assessment: Assignment (200 words): 10% + Presentation (10 min): 15% + Essay (2000 words): 45% + Assignment (1000 words): 20%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 1 x 2 hour tutorial) per week
