Caulfield First semester 2005 (Evening)
Synopsis: Computerised document imaging systems and interfacing to database retrieval systems. Topics include document imaging principles; information management; scanning and recognition techniques; extraction of textual and pictorial information; compression techniques for storage; interface to database systems; query languages for document and image retrieval; standards and case study of commercial systems; issues involved in computer document and image processing in LANs and WANs.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 60% + Two practical assignments: 40%
