Synopsis: Introduction to elements of computer graphics. History, hardware components, commercial use of GUIs. Concept of pixels, text and graphics modes in PC environments. GUI principles and components. Windows and VISUAL BASIC concepts. Introduction to Windows programming. Windows, APIs, DLL libraries, run-time dynamic linking, OLE technology, using databases in a GUI environment. Introduction to multimedia applications development. GUI styles and implementations. Desktop GUI hardware and projections for future GUI applications.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 50% + Practical work: 50%
Prerequisites: CSE1203 or CSE1303 or BUS1042 or MMS1803 or CPE1004 or equivalent, plus at least 18 points of any second or third year units in any discipline area.
