Synopsis: Necessary knowledge for contemporary digital systems design. The syllabus includes top-down design, controller/architecture model, CAD package and tools for digital system design, simulation and implementation, basic concept of VHDL and its application for digital system description. The subject also includes hardware structure of microcontroller, CPU architecture and design, CPU data path and control circuit, arithmetic processor and systems, single-chip microcontroller systems, memory and memory interface timing.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 60% + Practical work: 40%
Contact Hours: Two 1-hour lectures and one 2-hour practical class per week
Prerequisites: CSE2101
