Synopsis: Students gain experience with the translation of an informal problem specification into a class design and the implementation of that design in an object-oriented programming language. Software engineering topics include maintainability, readability, testing, documentation, and modularisation. Programming topics include selection, repetition, parameter passing, scoping and arrays. Students are expected to read, understand and debug existing code as well as develop new classes. Principles of reuse and class libraries are introduced.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 40%: + Unit test: 30% + Assignments: 30%
Contact Hours: Two hours of lectures and 2 hours of tutorials per week
