(MED)

Leader: Ms Phillipa Greene

Offered:
Gippsland Second semester 2005 (OCL)

Synopsis: This unit is concerned with Primary Health Care (PHC) and the applicability of this model for rural and remote communities and approaches 'health' from a social perspective, meaning health is viewed as something that result from activities of everyday life. The unit explores PHC within the rural context, providing the student with the opportunity to extend their thinking about health, the community and wider society. The new public health philosophy is at the heart of this unit. Students will examine various perspectives of PHC and recognise what can be defined as PHC within their own area of professional practice and, explore strategies to integrate PHC into their practice.
