Synopsis: This unit reviews the principles and philosophies underpinning current thinking in health promotion. Effective approaches to health promotion in rural environments are explored, with an emphasis on a social model of health, collaborative practice and community development.

Objectives: On completion of this unit it is intended that students should be able to: 1. Understand a social model of health; 2. Analyse and refine understanding of ethical professional responsibilities when undertaking health promotion programs; 3. Develop effective health promotion methodologies for rural communities; 4. Increase skills in practical evaluation methodology; 5. Demonstrate collaborative practices through constructive involvement in the online discussion group.

Assessment: Self directed learning, using online discussion as framework: based on 5 topic areas (30%), Major assignment 2000-3000 words (40%), 3 online quizzes (10% x3)
