Synopsis: Concrete as a structural material. Properties of hardened concrete, serviceability and strength analysis of RC sections, design of beams in flexure, shear design of beams, detailing of reinforcement, analysis of interaction of axial compression and bending, strength design of columns, basic concepts in concrete technology, concrete mix design, cement, aggregates and admixtures, handling and placing of concrete, manufacture, specification, ordering and supply of concrete, properties of fresh concrete, durability design of concrete structures.
Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 50% + Practical/project work: 50%
Contact Hours: 26 lectures, 26 hours of practice/laboratory classes, 4 hours laboratory
