Synopsis: This unit will further develop practical skills and background knowledge that are useful for doing business in China or working in companies that have business dealings with China. Students will continue to study and practice both general and specialist verbal communication via a series of contextualized dialogues. In addition, students will be required to read and discuss a range of background material in Chinese that will cover a variety of legal, cultural and social issues relevant to doing business in China, as well as specific business skills such as the application of negotiation techniques and writing common business correspondence.
Assessment: Project (1500 words): 15% + Class presentation: 5% + Participation in class discussions: 5% + Mid-semester written test (1 hour): 15% + Oral exam: 25% + Examination (2 hours): 35%
Contact Hours: 3 hours (3 x 1 hour seminars) per week
Prerequisites: CHI4459 or equivalent
