Clayton Second semester 2005 (Day)
Synopsis: Mass transfer-coefficients, equilibrium state; analytical and graphical solutions for selected unit operations. Heat transfer-coefficients, mechanisms, analogies; analysis for jacketed vessel, double-pipe and shell-and-tube heat exchangers. Flow through pipes; friction factor, Reynold's number, laminar and turbulent flow. Particle drag. Pumping of fluids.
Assessment: Examinations: 85% + Laboratory work: 15%
Contact Hours: Six 1-hour lectures/practice classes and one 3-hour practical per week
