Synopsis: Communications theory and practice; intra-personal, interpersonal, public and mass communication; matching register (listening, speaking reading and writing and non-verbal behaviours) to context, audience and purpose; active-interactive listening; oral presentations - organisation, planning and delivery; writing - business and technical reports, memos, business letters, job applications and CVs, use of graphics; meetings and interviews - protocols and procedures; negotiation skills and conflict resolution; organisational culture and practices - professional roles and relationships, cross-cultural interactions, ethics and liability issues.

Assessment: Assignments: 70% + Examination: 30% (2 hours) + Attendance at tutorials is compulsory.

Contact Hours: One 1-hour lecture and one 2-hour tutorial per week

Prerequisites: Entry to the Master of Business Systems or equivalent Masters program
