Synopsis: Fundamentals of commercial programming. The semantics and syntax of COBOL. Programming methodologies including structured programming, top-down code development and testing. Common batch processing tasks including report generation, control break processing, sequential and non-sequential master file updating and table processing.
Assessment: Programming assignment: 25% + Examination (2 hours): 75%
Contact Hours: One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour laboratory per week
Prerequisites: A second-year business systems or first-year computer science unit
