Synopsis: The unit aims to develop knowledge and skills, and an understanding of the collective aspects of the employment relationship, with a focus on the federal jurisdiction. In this regard, the unit examines the development of Australian labour law and includes consideration of the constitutional framework, conciliation and arbitration, the changing nature of awards, the role of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, enterprise bargaining, industrial disputes, termination of employment, freedom of association and the regulation of trade unions.
Assessment: Research assignment (4000 words): 40% + Take-home examination: 60%
