Synopsis: An examination of the Law of Negotiable Instruments, which will include an analysis of the concept of negotiability and the law relating to cheques and bills of exchange. Then will follow an examination of the Law of Insurance; the Law of Insolvency; Labour Law, including that which pertains to individual contracts of employment and collective bargaining; Alternative Dispute Resolution available to businesses seeking to settle disputes by means other than litigation; and the Law pertaining to money laundering and asset forfeiture. In all instances the essential elements of the law is examined, as are the implications of each law on business practice.

Objectives: An examination of the Law of Negotiable Instruments, which will include an analysis of the concept of negotiability and the law relating to cheques and bills of exchange. Then will follow an examination of the Law of Insurance; the Law of Insolvency; Labour Law, including that which pertains to individual contracts of employment and collective bargaining; Alternative Dispute Resolution available to businesses seeking to settle disputes by means other than litigation; and the Law pertaining to money laundering and asset forfeiture. In all instances the essential elements of the law is examined, as are the implications of each law on business practice.

Assessment: Two written assignments (up to 1500 words): 10% each + Semester test: 10% + Examination (3 hours, open book, 10 minutes reading time): 70%
