Synopsis: An overview of community. The nature of community. Key concepts: power, need, participation, task and process. Values, idealogies, goals and political issues. Change strategies: locality development, social planning and social action.
Assessment: Class presentation and report (1500 words): 35% + Review of article (800 words): 20% + Community profile (2200 words): 45% + Third-year students will be expected to demonstrate a greater degree of theoretical understanding and more sophisticated analysis in their written work than second year students.
Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 2 hour seminar) per week
