Anatomy of head, neck and brain ( 6 points, SCA Band 2, 0.125 EFTSL)

Synopsis: The teaching of Human Anatomy in this program will include dissection of the head, neck, brain and associated tissues and organs using human cadavers and will provide students with an integrated basic understanding of the gross and functional anatomy of this region of the human body. The course will also include those aspects of living anatomy, radiology, and the relevant components of embryology required to develop an integrated knowledge and understanding of the anatomy of this region.

Objectives: On completion of this unit, students will be able to understand the structure and functional anatomy of the head, neck and brain; interpret relevant X-ray and CT films; demonstrate relevant aspects of the surface anatomy of the head, neck and brain; appreciate the sequence of development of tissues and organs of the head, neck and brain; and as part of the study of the brain students will develop a knowledge and understanding of the associated organs of special sense.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours - MCQ/Short answer paper): 60% + Continuous assessment: 15% + "Flag race" (1 hour): 25%
