Synopsis: This unit will assist students to acquire analytical and research skills which will enable them to examine and discuss objectively the application of human rights in Australia, in both a general sense and specifically in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This unit also aims to assist students to examine their knowledge and understanding of human rights, and which human rights Australian citizens can expect to have applied on their behalf by Australian Governments.
Assessment: Essay (2250 words): 50% + Examination (2 hours): 50% + Third-year students will be expected to demonstrate more sophisticated analytical skills and submit work which demonstrates that they have read more extensively.
Contact Hours: 2 hours (1 x 2 hour seminar) per week
Prerequisites: AIS1010 or AIS1011 or equivalent
Prohibitions: AIS2808; GSC3804 (2000 and previously)
