Synopsis: Students will prepare a research proposal in an area of accounting and/or finance. Students will, with the assistance of a research mentor, select a research topic and prepare a proposal consisting of a literature review, theory and hypothesis development, an outline of the research methods to be applied and the data requirements

Objectives: On completion of this unit students will be able to 1. Select a topic for their research proposal. 2. Prepare a literature review relating to the topic that demonstrates a breadth of reading and an analysis of the academic papers in terms of both progressive development of theories and, where existing, conflict of views. 3. Develop hypotheses for the study, which must flow from the literature review. 4. Outline of the methodology which would be employed for the testing of the hypotheses. 5. Consider data requirements including types of data collection and availability of data.

Assessment: Class presentations: 30% + Written assessment: (5,000 words): 70%

Contact Hours: 15 contact hours over 13 weeks

Prerequisites: Only available to students enrolled in Accounting and Finance Honours.
