The discipline

The Faculty of Information Technology offers a major sequence in computing which can be included as a science sequence for the Bachelor of Science course. The sequence focuses on the development of computer-based applications, exploring computer technology, programming environments and system development, with a range of more specialised options at third level.

Sequence requirements

Minor sequence in computing (30 points):

• GCO1811, GCO1812 and GCO1815, and
• GCO2812 and one of GCO2815, GCO2817.

Major sequence in computing (54 points):

• GCO1811, GCO1812 and GCO1815, plus
• either GCO2812 and at least two of GCO2814, GCO2815 and GCO2817, plus at least three of GCO3812, GCO3813, GCO3817, GCO3823, GCO3824 and GCO3828, or
• GCO2812 and at least one of GCO2814, GCO2815, GCO2817, plus at least four of GCO3812, GCO3813, GCO3817, GCO3823, GCO3824 and GCO3828.

Recommendations

Level one

The unit MAT1077, which is described in the `Mathematical sciences' entry in this section of the handbook, provides useful mathematical background to support these studies.
