This course, offered by the School of Nursing & Midwifery, is designed to prepare specialist clinical nurses who are able to provide comprehensive care for the patient in the emergency setting. An extensive and diverse range of clinical experience is offered, incorporating patients of varying ages and level of acuity.
Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of professional clinical experience. Special entry may be available. Students must have clinical support for the duration of the course.
The course is offered full-time over one year or part-time over two years. Students will be required to undertake four 12-credit-point units (two core and two electives). Students must engage in a minimum of three days per week paid employment in an emergency department during the first 12 months of the course.
A further 24 credit points of elective units may be selected from units within other postgraduate nursing courses, to be negotiated with the course coordinator.
Assessment includes case study reports, tests, online tutorial discussion groups, clinical skills, exams, clinical performance, advanced life support assessment, learning package and assignments.
