Graduate Certificate in General Practice Psychiatry

Course description

This course is intended for general practitioners who wish to improve their skills in managing patients suffering from psychiatric conditions in the primary care setting. The program has been developed in conjunction with the University of Melbourne and involves four departments:

Entry requirements

Applicants must be currently registered by the medical board in their respective state, or have a qualification which is eligible to be registered in a state of the Commonwealth. A minimum of two years of work experience is essential, and preference will be given to applicants currently employed and who have been active in general practice for a minimum of two years. Special consideration may be given to suitably qualified overseas graduates residing in their own country.

Course structure

The course is offered part-time over two semesters via off-campus learning. It consists of seven core units:

Assessment

Assessment is by written assignments based on case discussions and case management, reflective journals, case commentaries and clinical audit.
