The course is designed for teachers who wish to upgrade their professional practice in their LOTE classes and educators who wish to use these pathways as a basis for detailed research in bilingual or second language education.
Candidates will usually hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification
from a recognised tertiary institution or an approved post-Year 12 major (or
approved equivalent) in a language other than English, have demonstrated
proficiency in the language and hold a recognised teaching qualification. Prior
to enrolment, all students must have their proposed course approved by the LOTE
program coordinator.
Note that teachers who wish to upgrade their qualifications to be eligible for
a teaching position in their LOTE need to have completed the language
requirement prior to entering the course. Those who have only one LOTE unit to
complete may seek permission of the course coordinator to undertake this as
part of the postgraduate diploma.
Students who are not qualified LOTE teachers may be required to complete
designated units in LOTE methodology and practice.
Students are required to successfully complete 72 credit points comprising one
