Course description

This course is designed for local and international students who wish to gain a qualification to teach English to speakers of other languages in overseas locations.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must hold either:

Applicants must also demonstrate their English proficiency.
Education in full English medium in an English-speaking country or one of the following:

Program 1 Program 2 #

Applicants without teaching qualifications and with one of the following ESL test results:
IELTS - 6.5 global (speaking and writing no lower than 6)
TOEFL - 577 with TWE of 4.5
Computer-based TOEFL - 237

Applicants with teaching qualifications or experience and/or with one of the following ESL test results:
IELTS - 6.0 global (no score below 5)
TOEFL - 550 with TWE of 4
Computer-based TOEFL - 213

Course outline

For the award of Postgraduate Certificate of Education (TESOL - International), a candidate will successfully complete two 12-point units from the following list:

Program 1 - entry with an IELTS
of 6.5 or its equivalent
Program 2 # - entry with an IELTS of 6.0 or its equivalent and teaching qualifications or experience

EDF6233 Theory and practice of TESOL (12 points)

EDF6233 Theory and practice of TESOL (12 points)

EDF6232 Professional practice for teachers of English as a foreign language (12 points)

EDF6236 Language, society and cultural difference (12 points), or
An approved general elective (12 points), or
EDF6010/20 Professional project (12 points)
