Course description

The course has been designed for graduates with an educational and/or professional background in business or finance seeking to gain a formal qualification in applied finance. Graduates with any other undergraduate degrees would need to complete a Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance.

Stream A

Entry requirements

(a) Applicants require one of the following:

• a Bachelor of Business (Banking and Finance), or
• a finance major within a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance), or equivalent with at least a credit average, or
• a Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance, or Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management or equivalent with at least a credit average.

Course structure

(a) Students must complete four units (24 credit points) at 4000-level

• AFF4200 Corporate treasury management
• AFF4220 Finance and banking relations
• AFF4230 Financial markets and long-term funding
• AFF4271 Funds management

(b) Students must complete two units (12 credit points) at 5000-level:

• AFF5221 Currency and exposure management
• AFF5240 Treasury administration and control

(c) Students must complete a further two elective units (12 credit points) at 4000 or 5000 level in a finance discipline, from units offered by the Department of Accounting and Finance.

Stream B

Entry requirements

Applicants must have any other undergraduate business or equivalent degree with a minimum of a credit average.

Course structure

(a) Students must complete four units (24 credit points) at 9000-level:

• AFF9250 Financial management or AFX9641 Business finance*
• AFF9260 Australian capital markets
• AFF9270 Treasury management for financial institutions
• AFF9350 Portfolio management and theory

(b) Students must complete four units (24 credit points) at 4000-level:

• AFF4200 Corporate treasury management
• AFF4220 Finance and banking relations
• AFF4230 Financial markets and long-term funding
• AFF4271 Funds management

(c) Students must complete two units (12 credit points) at 5000-level:

• AFF5221 Currency and exposure management
• AFF5240 Treasury administration and control

* Students who study AFX9641 must have an accounting background.
